The Chocolate Dessert Cafe is one of my very favorite local bakeries here in Utah. I know this bakery like the back of my frosting-filled hand. It just so happens it is on the morning commute and often ends up being an afternoon stop. To celebrate Valentine’s, I’m bringing you a week full of posts in hopes that you’ll see The Chocolate Dessert Cafe as I see it. From Febraury 10-14 The Chocoalte Dessert Cafe will host a romantic night where you can eat their cake and desserts in an ultra-romantic ambiance of candelight. I don’t think it gets more Valentine-sie than that, folks.

Utahn’s: Give ‘em cupcakes for Valentine’s Day!
I’ve never been a big-box-of-chocolate-on-Valentine’s-day girl. So naturally, cupcakes are the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for me. This week I stopped by The Cocoa Bean Cupcake Cafe in Provo. Their shop is decked out in Valentine love. I think they did such a great job of promoting cupcakes for V-day. My favorite is this sign on the outside of their store that says “Say you love’em with cupcakes!”

Valentine Cupcake Bouquet {Great Gift Idea!}
Wendy Paul, author of 101 Gourmet Cupcakes in 10 minutes, appeared on Studio 5 last week. She showed everyone how to make and assemble a beautiful Valentine Cupcake Bouquet. This is a really adorable, pretty, easy and probably affordable idea for a valentine gift. Plus it’s edible! Go to the Studio 5 Web site to see the video on how to make a valentine cupcake, as well as get Wendy’s recipes for the cupcakes and frosting. I’ve pasted the directions to make the cupcake flower bouquet below.
Directions for Flower Bouquet
Ingredients:
* 1 basket or pot with 6″ radius
* 6″ floral foam ball
* Rock or brick to weigh down the basket
* Glue
* Craft sticks
* 6-8 cupcakes, frosted
* 6-8 mini cupcakes, frosted
* Assortment of silk or fresh flowers (optional)
* Floral moss (optional)
* Sharp paring knife
Method:
Place the brick or rock in the bottom of the basket or pot. Secure with glue if needed. Place 6″ foam ball and secure around the edges of pot with glue.
Begin placing craft sticks on a slight upwards angle, in a pattern, starting with the bottom and working your way up. Using the paring knife, slice a small incision in the bottom of your frosted and decorated cupcake. Place the cupcake gently on the craft stick and secure. Fill in spaces between cupcakes with flowers or floral moss. Repeat until all spaces have been filled.
*Hints- Do not use a heavy frosting or a lot of frosting, as the cupcakes will fall. Be sure to weigh down your basket or pot, so as you eat the cupcakes, it won’t tip over.

Cupcake Liner Garland
I ran across this very lovely and quite inventive cupcake liner garland when I was browsing the talented Lacey Jane Pappas flickr stream. When we finally get (we = me and who ever wants to help) our buts in gear and start our Utah Cupcake Meetups, I’d love to have Lacey J teach us how to make these! Okay…another plug for giving cupcakes as a valentine gift. If you live in Utah, you have plenty of places to buy a cupcake for a Valentines gift.

I can’t say enough how much I think cupcakes are the perfect Valentine.

Cherry chocolate (Dark chocolate cake, cherry inside, chocolate ganache, and chocolate dipped cherry), valentine decorations (vanilla and chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting), and straberry and cream(Fresh strawberry cake, fresh cream topping, chocolate dipped strawberry on top)
Now it get’s better. Mini’s offers a packaged deal that includes the six cupcakes plus a Valentine’s floral arrangement from Roots. Flowers and Cupcakes! …now we are talking! Cost is $49.99
if you just want the box of six cupcakes, the price is $15
