Diva’s Mini Cupcakes vs. Hostess Ding Dongs

Part of on ongoing series where we compare the best of local Utah with their convenional and mass produced counterparts.

Which is better? We’ll let the reader decide.

Today we compare gourmet cupcakes from Diva’s in Salt Lake City to Hostess Ding Dongs.

Diva Cupcakes

Diva’s mini cupcakes are baked, from scratch, everyday by resident Baker, Caroline. Ding-Dongs are hockey puck chocolate cakes filled with cream.
Their “Black & White” Cupcake, which is a chocolate cake with cream cheese buttercream consists of only the best ingredients. The rich chocolate cake is made with Valhrona Premium Cocoa, locally grown fresh eggs and Cream O’Weber whole milk. The frosting, a Swiss meringue buttercream, consists of fresh egg whites, pure sugar, and 100% real unsalted butter. There is actually no real chocolate or cream in a Ding Dong. Ingredients: Sugar, partially hydrogenated vegetable and/or animal shortening, mono- and diglycerides, starch, whey, polysorbate 60, sorbic acid and 20 other strange ingredients we didn’t mention.
